After years of leaning on iconography and illustration to bring visual context and branding into the app, the Design Systems team approached us to create a spot illustration system for those in-between moments. Informed by product designers’ needs, design system component structures, and engineering’s requirements, we developed a flexible system of intelligently named, well-organized, easily accessible illustrations.

Designed for use at sizes ranging from 48px to 120px, this system provided more detail and color than our icons, without requiring the space of our mobile-width illustrations. Since its launch, brand designers across the team have contributed to an ever-growing library of visuals used throughout the product.
